I wrote this song to tell you how I'm feeling

I know it's been a while since you heard the words

But something's happened changed my whole perspective

I can't imagine me without you in my world

My best friend's wife decided she was leaving

He never told her just how much he really cared

He loved that woman more than anything in his whole world

If he'd have told her that he knows she'd still be there

And in case you are not sure I love you now and ever more

I never saw the suitcase hid behind the door

I'll never know how close we were to a heartache cause I learned

Sometimes we get the family we deserve

One day I got a phone call from my daughter

Through the years we drifted far apart

But I prayed for her each day that the Lord would guide her way

But the space between us really broke my heart

She called me crying dad I'm really sorry

I got some news I didn't want today

I remembered to a time I was a  child

When you lost your job I watched you kneel and pray

So I got out that old Bible that you gave me long ago

And now I know that Heaven's my real home

I thanked God then and there for that answer to my prayer

"Family We Deserve" is one of my favorite songs. God gave me this one, almost entirely, in a dream. I woke up the next morning, grabbed my guitar and finished it off. It is all about paying attention to your family or your family paying attention to you. The little things matter, someone is always watching. Family is a true gift from God. "So when hard times come your way think of what you do and say, you never know who's watching as you do."
